Charming in Old Town

In real estate, they say location is everything; here it inspired the overall design of this project. Built in 1792 and refurbished in 1980, this historic house overlooks Marblehead Harbor with a south, southwest exposure. On the north side, it faces the street. The renovation of this Old Town charmer included the kitchen, one bedroom, two full baths and a powder room and a lower-level family room. From the outset, Anita knew the redo had to be respectful of the home’s history. That was especially true of the kitchen, which had to look like it belonged there. She chose to work with the Kennebec Company out of Bath, Maine, which specializes in period cabinetry. The project was just underway when the client decided to delay implementation until after the summer. Anita planned accordingly and didn’t miss a beat. She made her selections of finishes, lighting, appliances and fixtures and was ready to go as soon as the client gave the green light. They began demolition on the Tuesday after Labor Day weekend—and the project was successfully completed in December, in time for the holidays.
